3-Day meet rekindles spirit of Sindhiyat

Sindhi Council Of India - Bangalore Ladies Chapter
18th International Sindhi Samelan was held at Ahmedabad on 16th,17th & 18th Dec 2011
Commenting on the current status of Sindhis across the globe dignitaries said, "Sindhis are losing their cultural identity and younger generation knows little about their roots, customs or cuisine. This meet seeks to rekindle younger generations interest into their origins. This is an effort to revive linguistic and cultural bonds. The motto is to rise above geographical distances and unite into one cultural identity."

Language Barrier

Language can break barriers or create one. Both these instances were seen at the 18th Sindhi Samelan held in Ahmedabad. A participant told your diarist hoe senior BJP Leader L K Advani took the concept of 'Sindhiyat' a bit too far when he addressed the gathering only in sindhi. "Youngsters who did not know the language began squirming after a while. If Advaniji wanted to send across a message, what use was it if his words could not be understood by the young generation?" the participant asked. Another youngster said, "We kept asking our elders for a translation every few minutes. After a while, we gave up. Advaniji is good at English and Hindi. He could have given a part of the speech in other languages so that we could grasp it."
